If you’ve watched any sports lately, or listened to any music online, you’ve likely heard ads for fantasy sports websites Draft Kings and Fan Duel.

There’s a debate raging over whether the sites, which allow wagering on each day’s games for several sports leagues, are legal.

The New York Attorney General’s offices has banned the companies from accepting bets in that state because he argues the activity constitutes illegal gambling.

As the cliche goes, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Incarnate Word, in just its third year as a Division I program, didn't beat #21-ranked Purdue, but as the Cardinals lost 96-61, they tried early to take a page from this year's Boiler squad by staying in the game with outside shots.

However, unlike a Purdue team which made 18 baskets from distance against Vermont on Sunday, the visitors from San Antonio couldn't keep it up and couldn't score consistently anywhere else on the floor. Just nine Cardinal baskets came from two-point range.

There's a book store near the Purdue campus that, one day a week, gives 3-percent discounts for every three-pointer the men's basketball team makes. The store's owners are going to be thankful there's a cap on the discount following a 107-79 win over Vermont Sunday.

Early last year, when Purdue opponents played hack-a-Hammons or hammer-a-Haas against Purdue centers A.J. and Isaac, the resulting free throws were sometimes an adventure.

This year's team has added another big man, highly-touted freshman Caleb Swanigan, but the free throws are now more often freebies for the Boilermakers than for their opponents.

In his season-ending locker room speech to the Purdue football team last year at Bloomington's Memorial Stadium, athletic director Morgan Burke told the team's returning players 2014 would be the last time they wouldn't be playing in a bowl game.

That timetable will have to wait at least one more year.

Illinois ended the Boilermakers' bowl game hopes with a 48-14 victory Saturday, ensuring Purdue cannot get to the six wins necessary for postseason consideration, even if they win all their remaining games.

On Halloween every year, people dressed in costume do things they don't ordinarily do. So perhaps it should have been expected that several dozen people dressed as Purdue Boilermakers would deliver the first home, Big Ten Conference win of the Darrell Hazell era on October 31.

Purdue came in with one of the worst rush defenses in the Big Ten and one of the worst rush offenses, and yet they both outgained rush-happy Nebraska on the ground and allowed fewer rushing yards than the Huskers en route to a 55-45 victory.

Purdue athletics officials say the reason they chose to upgrade the school’s football training facility before fixing Ross-Ade Stadium is two-fold -- the program needs better players to succeed and it was the only one of those two projects the department could afford in full.

The bulk of the $60 million set to be spent on the Mollenkopf  training facility will come from Purdue’s portion of the Big Ten Network television contract.

The Indianapolis Indians have signed a new 20-year lease on Victory Field.

The new lease is similar to the team's first 20-year lease that expires in March, but Capital Improvement Board Executive Director Barney Levengood says it took about five months of negotiations to reach agreement on who would be responsible for what repair and maintenance costs.

“Whenever you divide up responsibilities, it does take some time to get that done,” Levengood says.

At least most of the student body wasn't around to see this.

In front of a crowd diminished by Purdue's fall break and much smaller than the announced figure of 33,780, the Boilermakers again failed to secure their first Big Ten Conference home win in the Darrell Hazell era, losing to Minnesota 41-13.

Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium, the 75-year-old 3,500-seater in Columbian Park, is home to the Colt World series, American Legion baseball and Jefferson High School’s team. But when it comes to professional ball, things have never quite worked out for the ballpark.

As was announced this week, a consortium that owns several Midwestern collegiate teams is ready to try again.
