Purdue's Life & Health Sciences Park taking shape

Jun 18, 2012

The Purdue Board of Trustees is signing off on the construction contracts for three projects. Those are the cornerstone for the university's Life and Health Sciences Park along Harrison Street on the  south side of campus.

The university is building a drug discovery facility for $28.7 million. That’s more than the original estimate of $25 million.

Vice President for Physical Facilities Bob McMains says the increase is needed to finish more of the project than first planned.

IPFW chancellor to be named Tuesday morning

Jun 18, 2012

Purdue is naming a new chancellor for the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.

The announcement is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Fort Wayne.

The search to replace current Chancellor Michael Wartell began last fall.

Wartell has led the campus since 1994 and was hoping to stay on two years more. However, the Purdue Board of Trustees did not grant an extension past the mandatory retirement age of 65.

Trustees are expected to approve the new chancellor’s appointment next month.

A group of students is asking the Purdue Board of Trustees to do more to fight racism and discrimination.

About a dozen students stood up at the beginning of the board’s committee meeting, holding signs that reflect some requests they’ve made in a petition. After about ten minutes, the group walked out of the meeting, holding their signs and some with their fists in the air.

Governor Mitch Daniels is weighing in on a push to get a faculty member on the Purdue Board of Trustees.

Members of the University Senate are considering a proposal that asks the current board to urge the governor to appoint a current, former, or emeritus professor to the panel.

Daniels says such an idea should not be ruled out.

"But, the faculty has an awful lot to say about the governance of any institution already. I don't think they lack for influence or a chance to have their views heard. It's a worthwhile idea."

Gov. Daniels on next Purdue University president

Mar 12, 2012

The next president of Purdue University will have statewide impact, and Governor Mitch Daniels is giving his input on what kind of leader he wants on the job.

The first character quality he mentioned was “change agent.” Daniels added, "Someone who sees a great opportunity in Purdue and can make it leap further forward in excellence, so it’s on par with Cal Tech and M.I.T."

When asked if he wants the job, Daniels said, "I have no comment on that. I've said I won't talk about a next job until later this year at the soonest."
