Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society, dedicated to fostering and promoting high quality chamber music in the region, celebrates 20 years this season.
John Clare spoke to TCMS Founder (and WBAA Content Director!) Greg Kostraba and executive director and cellist Margot Marlatt about the origins of the group, and what to expect this year!
The next concert is "A Mozartian Birthday; a celebration of Mozart's 260th" on Sunday, November 20, starting at 4:00pm in Purdue's Eliza Fowler Hall. It's an all-Mozart program of string quartets and trios.
The Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society was founded in 1997 by two musicians, pianist and radio personality Greg Kostraba and cellist Konstantin Jakimow. The Society was designed to fill a niche for chamber music lovers and serve as a platform for musicians from Greater Lafayette to perform chamber music. A successful preview concert at Thomas Duncan Hall in January of 1997 served as a springboard for the organization. The Society was formally chartered as a 501c3 organization and a Board of Directors was elected with Mr. Kostraba serving as the first President and Artistic Director. TCMS thrived with a growing patron base and successful fundraising.
In January of 2009, Margot Marlatt was appointed Executive Director of the organization. The appointment was part of a strategic plan developed by TCMS to increase its community presence and educational outreach and provide a more sustainable administrative structure. Through an endowment campaign with the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, TCMS successfully reached a $25,000 goal adding to its endowment. The endowment helps to fund the educational programs of TCMS.
