Thomas Keon will become Chancellor of the new Purdue University Northwest system when it comes into existence next year.

Effective July 1, Keon will lead the unified campuses of Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central.

Keon, the current Chancellor of Purdue University Calumet, was one of four finalists for the position.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels and search committee chairman Gary Lehman announced Keon's selection on Friday.

Daniels says, "Keon has an extraordinary opportunity to lead what will be the fifth largest public university in Indiana and one that will have positive impact on students and businesses for years to come."

James Dworkin, Chancellor of Purdue North Central, will remain in his position until he retires June 30.
