Sheriff's deputy awarded department's highest honor

A Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Deputy is being awarded the department’s highest honor.

Randall Martin received the Medal of Valor for rescuing a seven-month old child who was trapped in a vehicle in a crash on U.S. 231 South near Romney.

Martin broke through the rear window and pulled the baby boy from the burning car and handed him off to a fellow rescuer.

Sheriff Tracy Brown says Martin performed his duties in the face of great danger.

The infant’s mother was killed in the June 4th, 2012 accident.

The Sheriff’s Department expressed its condolences to her family members who attended the medal ceremony this morning.
