Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb and U.S. Representatives Susan Brooks and Todd Rokita have thrown their names in to replace Mike Pence on the gubernatorial ballot.
With Pence withdrawing his name from the ballot for governor, the dominos began to fall.
First in line was Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb – he cites his experience in the state as the reason he should be the GOP’s new gubernatorial nominee. That includes working for former Governor Mitch Daniels.
“I’ve been Lieutenant Governor now for just over four months, doing the job and so I look forward to continuing the success here in Indiana and being able to share my contribution,” Holcomb says.
Representative Todd Rokita (R-4th) filed his paperwork to withdraw from his House race and announced his candidacy for governor shortly after Holcomb.
“With two statewide large-margin wins, with high name ID, with $1.5 million already in the bank and the proven ability to fundraise more, we will get our message out to Hoosier voters,” Rokita says.
Representative Susan Brooks (R-5th) filed her paperwork through a volunteer.
The State Republican Party will choose Pence’s replacement in the next 30 days.
Rokita and Brooks could return to running for their House seats if they don’t get the nod for the gubernatorial ticket.
