Northwest Indiana Planned Parenthood Resumes Abortion Services

Aug 1, 2017

Planned Parenthood in Merrillville is able to provide abortions again after halting those services for a couple weeks.

The clinic in northwestern Indiana suspended abortions earlier this month because a doctor had severed ties with the center. That put them in violation of an Indiana law that requires abortion centers to have agreements with doctors who have admitting privileges at local hospitals.

Planned Parenthood was able to find another physician to sign that backup agreement. The Indiana State Department of Health notified the clinic Monday it could resume its abortion services.

In a statement, Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky CEO Christie Gillespie said the organization is committed to providing a wide range of services, including abortion, regardless of regulatory challenges.
