Coach Painter in the Final Four of national charity challenge

Purdue men’s basketball coach has made it to the Final Four of a national competition.

Matt Painter is participating in the Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge, vying for a 100-thousand dollar prize.

The money will benefit The Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund, which funds research to find a cure for Niemann Pick Disease.

Trent Smith is a West Lafayette father who has had three children suffer from the genetic, neurodegenerative disease.

His son Braden passed away in 2006 at the age of ten. His daughter Riley lost her battle with Niemann Pick this past January.

Smith says it’s difficult raising large sums of money for this disease because many people haven’t heard of it.

The Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge ends Sunday at noon.

The coach with the most votes wins.
