With such a small group of current investors putting up buildings along State Street, how does the city encourage competition and keep a lid on possible price-fixing?

As more development is planned along West Lafayette’s State Street, the city is counting the dollars it’ll reap in tax revenue and dreaming of the shiny new buildings the area will house in a couple years.

But who’s building all those gleaming new retail, apartment and office edifices? Increasingly, it looks like just a couple companies will be the primary owners.

So this week on WBAA’s Ask The Mayor, we’ll talk with West Lafayette’s John Dennis about whether his city plans to keep prices in check by either open the area up for more competition or cracking down on possible collusion among the small cartel of developers who are throwing money into State Street.
