Dear Friends,

Ray Wolf, Bill Shigley and Brook Balkema on "School of the Air"

As the end of the year quickly approaches, we hope that this letter meets you with joy and anticipation.  At WBAA, we are thankful for a memorable 2013 that includes welcoming more than 100 new members to the WBAA family and the addition of exciting new programs like Science Friday. 2013 also brought new leadership to WBAA.  I am pleased to be writing my first letter to you as WBAA’s new General Manager.  I am honored to have your trust to ensure the future of public radio from Purdue.

While WBAA leadership has gone through many changes throughout its 90-year history, the focus of every General Manager has remained the same - a dedication to ensuring that WBAA continues to enrich lives with services that engage, educate, and entertain listeners through high-quality news and music programming. Fulfilling this mission is becoming increasingly dependent on WBAA’s ability to remain current with advancements in its technology and equipment.  That is why last year we launched the station’s first end-of-the year giving campaign specifically targeted to raise funds for these needs.

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that we have received a $5,000 gift to the WBAA Technology & Equipment Fund from Mrs. BJ Wolf, in honor of her husband, the late Professor Raymond E. Wolf.  Ray understood the value of current technology to a station’s success and long-term sustainability.  As a thirty year veteran of WBAA, producing ground-breaking content for WBAA’s educational programming, “School of the Air,” Ray knew first-hand the importance of equipment and technology to delivering world-class programming to West-Central Indiana.

Today, our technology and equipment provides WBAA listeners with access to the station anywhere in the world through the WBAA app for smartphones and tablets.  The app enables teachers and professors to provide educational content to students in their classrooms.  And, it enables us to continue to deliver a stronger broadcast signal and purchase and maintain equipment to help keep us on the air.  Your support of the WBAA Technology & Equipment Fund will help us replace aging and outdated digital and broadcast equipment so we can continue to provide the finest quality programming on your radio for years to come.

As you consider your end-of-year giving, take a look at the enclosed timeline of WBAA’s history that includes information on how technology and equipment have evolved at WBAA.  Please consider joining the Wolfs and others by sending in an additional gift to the WBAA Technology & Equipment Fund.   Every gift, large and small, matters to our future.  Thank you so much for your ongoing support.
