St. Vincent, Anthem Reach Deal On Microhospitals

Jun 4, 2018

Hoosiers with Anthem insurance are now covered for care at St. Vincent’s “neighborhood hospitals.” The two organizations have reached a deal to include the hospitals in the network.

The neighborhood hospital or microhospital model offers patients inpatient and emergency care in a smaller, more accessible setting.

St. Vincent has opened four of those new hospitals in the past year but they were not in network for patients with Anthem. St. Vincent Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Richard Fogel says they had to correct this.

In an effort to respond to patients’ desires for speed and convenience, health networks are thinking small.

Microhospitals — which typically offer limited procedures and acute care services in a building with a significantly smaller footprint than traditional hospitals — have proven popular in other states, and a handful of the facilities are planned to open in Indiana.
