Purdue Tops Western Carolina

Purdue’s men’s basketball team rebounded from its second loss of the season with a 65-60 win over Western Carolina.

The Boilers were down at halftime, but regained the lead early in the second period en route to their eighth win of the season

Head Coach Matt Painter says his team’s struggles are due in part to ailing physically, but says they need to also be mentally stronger.

The win is the 23rd in a row for Purdue inside Mackey Arena.

Robbie Hummel led all scorers with 19 and Lewis Jackson added 15.

Purdue Program Helps Student Veterans

A Purdue-based organization is giving money to student service members and veterans across the state to pursue a college degree.

The Military Family Research Institute is giving $7,000 to programs at four higher education institutions.

The grants which are funded by Purdue’s Operation Diploma are intended to help service members transition to campus life.

Since 2008, the initiative has given nearly $2.5-million to higher education institutions and student veterans’ organizations.

The United States faces a broad set of national security challenges that require deep scientific understanding.  That’s according to Paul Hommert, who delivered a lecture to Purdue students and faculty Wednesday morning.

He currently serves as director of Sandia  National Laboratories, which falls under the authority of the federal government’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

Purdue downs Miami in Big Ten - ACC Challenge

The Purdue men's basketball team gave its conference a boost.

The Boilers beat Miami 76-65 in the Big Ten - ACC Challenge.

Robbie Hummel led the team with a game-high 17-points.

He says the victory is especially important because it represents the entire league.

Lewis Jackson added 15-points and Terone Johnson scored 13 for Purdue, which has now won in the Challenge three straight years.

During Tuesday’s game, the school honored last year’s Big Ten Player of the Year and consensus All-American, JaJuan Johnson, by raising his number to the rafters.

All Purdue employees have the responsibility to do what's right to keep those who work, study, and visit the university safe. That's the message from President France Cordova in response to the ongoing scandal at Penn State.

Cordova sent a brief email message to all employees saying everyone should report child abuse or neglect they witness or have knowledge of. She says in an emergency situation, that can be done by calling 911.
