The Lafayette Writers’ Studio was founded by Melissa Fraterrigo “to create a comfortable, nurturing environment in our community where writers of all levels could go to hone their craft, find support, and improve their work.” Thursday will begin the 2018 series of classes starting with “New Year, New Writing: Goal-Setting and Submission Gathering” at Matchbox Coworking Studio. Lafayette coworking studio partnering with Ivy Tech

MatchBOX Coworking Studio is partnering with Ivy Tech in Lafayette to help prepare students to join the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Officials say the arrangement is intended to be mutually beneficial.

Students in the Entrepreneurship Program will have access to guest lectures, field trips, and mock business pitch competitions, while MatchBOX will be able to work with students who may have ideas for new business ventures.

Ivy Tech Lafayette Chancellor David Bathe says the real-world experience is invaluable.

County contributes $500K to coworking studio project

The City of Lafayette and its partners on a new coworking space downtown are getting additional help from Tippecanoe County.

Commissioners have approved contributing $500,000 toward the renovation of the MatchBOX Coworking Studio site on South Sixth Street downtown, and an additional $10,000 a year for operations funding.

MatchBOX operations manager Ashley Scott says the support indicates the effort is on the right track.

Lafayette Urban Enterprise Association and Greater Lafayette Commerce are also working with the city on the project.

The board of works approved an extension for Jason Tennenhouse Tuesday. The previous agreement expired last week.

Economic Development Director Dennis Carson says Tennenhouse will continue providing his design and strategy services through December.

MatchBOX Coworking Studio financing

Organizers of a coworking space in downtown Lafayette are putting the financing together.

While the space is being leased from the Tippecanoe County Public Library for $1 per year, the city is paying to renovate the facility. The library uses a portion of the Stein Building at 6th and South streets.

Lafayette’s Economic Development and Redevelopment commissions approved plans to sell up to $1.5 million in economic revenue bonds. The money would be used to build out the 10,000 square foot facility with conference rooms and work stations.

New coworking venture has name, logo

A new co-working site in downtown Lafayette has a name and a logo.

MatchBOX Coworking Studio is located in the Stein Building at the southeast corner of Sixth and South streets.

The space is owned by the Tippecanoe County Public Library, but the city is leasing it for just one-dollar a year.

Lafayette Economic Development Director Dennis Carson says the logo for the new venture is matchsticks and a matchbox.
