A first for Purdue undergraduate students studying art and design, the Art and Design annual juried show is in the Robert L. The Sixty Square Inches Small Print Exhibition continues today for the 19th time, a tradition that began in 1977!  This exhibit presents a current review of North American printmakers working within a format of 60 square inches in image area.  It was juried by printmaker and guest artist Monika Meler, associate professor at the Univeristy of the Pacific, along with Liz Erlewine, director and head curator for Purdue University Galleries.

Artist Jackie Head and Samantha Holmes are featured in the next Ringel Gallery exhibit, Tessellated. They'll speak at the opening, Thursday evening at 5:30pm at Purdue's Stewart Center. Drawing Resurfaced II features work from contemporary artists working in the drawing medium from across the United States. The new exhibition opens today at noon in Purdue's Fountain Gallery in downtown Lafayette. The reception takes place Thursday, November 16, at 5:30PM with comments by the jurors: Liz Erlewine, Eric Penington, and Christine Wuenschel. Natalie Baxter's Clearly Confused runs October 3rd to November 4th at the Fountain Gallery in downtown Lafayette. Baxter is a soft sculptor creating “an accessible entry point to unpack political issues that have become points of division in today’s political and social landscape.” WBAA's John Clare spoke to Liz Erlewine about the new exhibit.

Dong Yifang: Painting Through a Century of Change in China opens Monday, August 28 in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery at Stewart Center. It’s a new collaboration with Purdue Galleries, the School of Languages and Cultures at Purdue, and the community. The exhibit features ink paintings and sketches by Dong Yifang. It also has original art work of Dong’s teachers, colleagues, and students: Qin Zhongwen (1896-1974), Lu Yanshao (1909-1993), Song Wenzhi (1919-2000), Wei Tianlin (1898-1977), and Wang Yani (b. 1975).

Forest of History is an exhibition installation from Myung Gyun, You at the Fountain Gallery from August 18th to September 23rd. It features a site-specific art installation of imposing, abstract sculptures made with dyed newspapers from all over the world. Inspired by nature, the installation asks viewers to consider: their own place in the world, encouraging thought about cultural identity, nationality, and heritage, as constructs within the context of natural phenomena. Purdue University Galleries latest exhibition is titled GIFTED: Selected Gifts to the Permanent Collection. Running July 5 to August 5, it will highlight works gifted to Purdue Galleries’ permanent collection, including prints, sculpture, and paintings representing a wide range of media, regions, and time periods.
