Boilermaker fans and alumni are excited about a new brew, and there's a new place that it can be enjoyed. Boiler Gold debuted at the opening Purdue football game in September 2017, and is now available exclusively in Ross-Ade Stadium, and the newly renovated 1869 Tap Room. WBAA's John Clare spoke to Purdue's Brian Farkas, Bryan Gutridge, and Shannen Jordan to get the scoop.

Craft beer now makes up a quarter of the beer market in the U.S., which means brewers are eager for ways to stand out. For some, that means buying hops locally -- even in Indiana.

It's encouraging more and more upstart Hoosier growers to invest long-term in the trendy crop.

Steve Howe is one of them. His Crown Point backyard doubles as Howe Farms. Past a pen of piglets and fluffy Scottish Highland cows, Howe is growing a tiny forest of hops.

The state Department of Agriculture is looking for new ways to make Indiana specialty crops competitive.

They'll divide more than $380,000 among research and marketing projects for fruit, veggies and more. The federal money comes from the USDA’s specialty crop block grant program.

A Greencastle brewer is benefiting from a piece of  10-year-old economic development legislation that makes him eligible for a liquor license, even though the county has reached its limit. 

Former teacher and home brewer Chris Weeks can’t wait to be serving up locally brewed beer and burgers in the former downtown Greencastle NAPA building.

“I was actually given a Mr. Beer kit over five years ago for Christmas, and I quickly realized that I loved brewing," he says.

Sun King and other small Indiana breweries are a step closer to being allowed to make more beer.

The House Public Policy Committee passed a bill from Rep. Ed Clere (R-New Albany) that would allow craft beer brewers to triple the amount of beer they can make and sell within the state each year.   

Right now, the limit is 30,000 barrels - if a brewery makes more, it has to obtain a different permit and is no longer allowed to distribute its own beer.
