American Opera Series on WBAA Classical
Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. (length varies)
The WFMT Radio Network has gathered many of the most celebrated and stirring opera performances by American companies over the past year as part of this popular 29 week radio series. The American Opera series features highlights from the Lyric Opera of Chicago, LA Opera and San Francisco Opera’s most recent seasons plus a selection of special performances from other major companies including Caramoor, Michigan Opera Theatre and a special concert version of Verdi’s MacBeth by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This series begins on May 17 and runs through the end of November, making it ideally suited to run in the same time slot as the Metropolitan Opera series (which starts in December). In addition to featuring world-class performance recordings, this series includes lively and insightful but brief commentary about the performances and short interviews with artists.
November 15 - Glimmerglass Opera - AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY / Tobias Picker
November 22 - Chicago Opera Theater - THE CLEVER ONE / Carl Orff *and* THE EMPEROR OF ATLANTIS / Victor Ullman
