WLCSC Prepares New Teacher Evaluation Model

A new model for evaluating teachers in West Lafayette is taking shape.

The district is submitting its proposal for gauging educators’ performance to the state Department of Education, according to reforms enacted last year.

Superintendent Rocky Killion thinks the model will help improve the quality of teaching in West Lafayette.

School districts are required to adopt teacher evaluation models by this summer.  They can create their own, adapt one based on Indiana’s RISE model, or use the RISE model as is.

If a corporation chooses to develop its own, like what is being done in West Lafayette, Lafayette, and Tippecanoe schools, the model must be approved by the state.

Ratings from the evaluation will be used for raises and promotions.
