WL school's strategic plans

West Lafayette school officials are putting an increased emphasis on student safety. A renovation project is being considered for the entryway and office area at the junior-senior high school.

Superintendent Rocky Killion says the district needs to make improvements based on the guidelines of its facilities strategic plan.

"We want to increase student services support and we want to improve school security. You can never overemphasize school security,” he says. “This is going to give us an opportunity to improve school security and improve our services for our students at the junior-senior high school."

Killion says aside from safety concerns, now is a good time to update facilities from a financial standpoint. The cost of the work is estimated at up to $1 million.

With school board approval, the project could start as soon as next spring break and be completed by the end of summer 2014.

Work on a new academic strategic plan is also underway, and school officials hope to finish it in about a year. Killion says officials are currently reviewing curricula.
