WL eyes land use map

A future land use plan is under construction in West Lafayette.

The City and Tippecanoe Area Plan Commission are developing it, specifically for the New Chauncey Neighborhood.

Ryan O’Gara is the Assistant Director of the APC. He says the document will help provide a clearer vision for future projects.

“A future land use plan map literally is a map of the neighborhood and it shows general areas where we'd like growth to occur and what type of growth," said O'Gara.

"So what this does is hopefully really clarifies for the development community what the expectations for the city are for this neighborhood and that is something that is currently missing.”

O’Gara says not having a future land use plan has forced some developers to hold off on projects.

“A lot of developers appreciate these plans because it sort of lets them know what their chances are," he said.

There is no timeline for completing the document, but when it is done, it must be approved by the Area Plan Commission as well as the West Lafayette City Council.

The APC is hosting three public workshops on the issue. Those are:
