Winter weather in Indiana, Dec. 26

Indiana State Police

The strong storm moving through Indiana is causing problems on the road and at the Indianapolis Airport.

Indiana State Police are responding to numerous slide offs the interstates as well as state and U.S. highways. A multi-vehicle accident shut down southbound Interstate-65 for several hours Wednesday morning at mile mark 179 in Tippecanoe County.

The snow and wind delayed or canceled many flights at Indianapolis International Airport. Travelers were advised to check the airport's websiteor contact their airline to check flight status.

More than 100 Indiana National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are responding to the winter storm. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is overseeing the deployment across the state.

The members of the Guard are assisting state and local police with road conditions and emergency situations, as needed. The National Guard is operating in Terre Haute, Vincennes, Evansville, Indianapolis, Muncie and Richmond.

The National Weather Servicehas a Blizzard Warningin effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday for much of Indiana. Tippecanoe, Carroll, Fountain and Warren counties are under a Winter Storm Warninguntil 7 p.m. White and Cass counties are under a Winter Weather Advisoryunitl 10 p.m.
