TSC to Offer Full Day Kindergarten

All elementary schools in the Tippecanoe School Corporation will offer full day kindergarten for free starting next school year.

The district will make the option available thanks to recently passed legislation that allocates state funds to pay for it.

Superintendent Scott Hanback says having kindergarten students in school all day helps accelerate the learning process.

Parents who currently send their children to kindergarten full-time pay $1,400 dollars a year.

The legislation prohibits districts from charging tuition.

Hanback says the state money helps, but won’t completely cover the cost.

He says TSC will have to pay about $45,000 from the general fund to make up the difference.
