Indiana Public Broadcasting Statehouse Reporter Brandon Smith has received this communication from a Department of Health spokesperson regarding the forms the state uses to grant marriage licenses:
"The state is working to comply with Judge Young's order in regards to new marriage licenses forms that allow more than just one male and one female applicant."
Some clerks had claimed they could not grant the licenses because the forms would not allow for two partners of the same sex.
Many clerks on Wednesday simply began crossing out or whiting out one side of the form and writing in the appropriate gender.

The first legally recognized same-sex marriage ceremony in Tippecanoe County is complete. WBAA's Kristin Malavenda reports it took place in the hallway of the county courthouse, near Clerk Christa Coffey's office.
9:40 a.m. UPDATE:
A day after many Indiana counties began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Tippecanoe County is following suit.
The first license was issued just after 9 a.m. Thursday -- almost 24 hours after U.S. District Judge Richard Young ruled the practice was legal in the state and the state's existing ban unconstitutional.
County Clerk Christa Coffey says couples were lined up outside her office when it opened at 8 a.m. Thursday, but she worried about violating either federal or state law if she allowed them to marry.
Coffey had been seeking counsel from lawyers and waiting on an updated form from the Indiana Department of Health which would replace the existing form allowing only for the names of one man and one woman.
