TAF Awards $121K during honors ceremony

The Tippecanoe Arts Federation is helping 32 organizations in the region fund projects and initiatives.

TAF is giving the groups $121,000 for various efforts.

Jason Bennett with the Board of Directors says the impact of art is felt throughout most parts of the community.

“They (arts) promote confidence.  They give kids a case to belong as they grow up through school," he said. "The arts tough the community in tangible ways that may not be obviously apparent at first blush, but are very, very real and do benefit the community.”

The Arts Federation recognized groups in the 14 county region it serves during its annual awards luncheon Wednesday afternoon.

Bonnie Zimmer of the Prairie Arts Council in Rensselaer won the John Corey Award.

The honor is given each year to the person who impacts the community by exhibiting leadership and commitment to the arts and advancing the role of the arts.

She says to be honored by her peers gives the award special significance.

"To me, it's the ultimate honor," said Zimmer.  "They do the same thing I do, so to have them acknowledge what I'm doing as important is just double satisfaction for me."
