Sugar Cream Tassies

What's your game day routine? Whether you watch the Colts or Bears or another NFL team, you probably have some ritual of where you watch the game and with whom. Another important item is the food you eat.

Scott Hutcheson has some general rules about the perfect game-time snack.

Sugar Cream Tassies

Crust

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

Filling

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • Whole nutmeg

Combine softened butter and cream cheese with a fork until smooth. Add flour, about a half cup at a time, working into smooth dough. Chill dough for about one hour. Shape into 1-1/4-inch balls and press into small muffin pans to make shells.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all the filling ingredients, except for nutmeg and butter, in a mixing bowl and use a whisk to combine. Pour into each of the tassie crusts. Grate a little nutmeg onto each pie and drop a small piece of butter onto each one as well. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to come to room temperature. Refrigerate and serve chilled. This recipe will make about 48 tassies.
