Speaker links social justice with environmental sustainability

An environmental social scientist and originator of the “just sustainability” movement will speak at Purdue next week.

Julian Agyeman is a professor at Tufts University and editor-in-chief of “Local Environment: The International Journal of Justice and Sustainability.”

He promotes social justice and equity as an integral element of sustainable living.

Agyeman contends how we treat each other affects and how we treat the environment.

He says in order for environmental groups to thrive and achieve their goals, their membership must represent the community they’re attempting to serve.

Agyeman will be the keynote speaker of Purdue’s Discovery Lecture Series Thursday at 4:30 in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall.
