Mayor-Elect Hogsett Wants To Address Crime First

Bill Shaw

Even though Indianapolis Mayor-Elect Joe Hogsett has to wait until next year to be sworn in, he’s already making public safety a priority for a city he says has been witness to a violent crime wave.

Hogsett says he’ll at least name a public safety director and police chief before his term begins so they can start alongside him. As soon as he’s sworn in, he plans on convening a meeting of safety officials immediately.

"The most important thing on January the first is convening as I intend to do very quickly, a summit of public safety leader and public safety officials to talk about the violent crime epidemic in our city," he says.

Other members of the city mayor’s cabinet include the deputy mayors of economic development and education, the city controller and the director of public works.
