Lafayette offering abatements for SIA expansion

The City of Lafayette is preparing to give one of its largest companies a tax break on $75-million in projects.

The Redevelopment Commission is recommending tax abatements for Subaru of Indiana Automotive.

One is for seven years on $70-million of equipment and the other is for ten years on five million dollars’ worth of construction.

Executive Vice President Tom Easterday says the deal is important to keep SIA globally competitive.

The projects are expected to be finished by 2014 and result in 100 new jobs.

The Lafayette City Council will vote on the proposed abatements at its June meeting.
