The Indiana State Fair has wrapped up its 17-day run, with a five-percent drop in attendance.

The fair drew about 900,000 visitors, about seven-percent below the record set in 2013. It's the third-lowest figure since the fair expanded to 17 days in 2009.

One of the two lower years was 2011, when a stage collapse which killed seven people prompted the cancellation of one day of activity.

Fair spokeswoman Lesley Gordon says the fair struggled to bring in people for a number of reasons.

“We definitely had a few crazy forecasts and some rainy days and we’re still seeing some impact from school going back so I think, among those things, could definitely have helped with not breaking that number from last year,” Gordon says.

Gordon says the fair has no plans to alter its schedule to reduce that conflict -- next year's fair will again open on the first Friday in August.

Despite lower attendance, Gordon says some new attractions made their mark.

The fair did have its highest-ever attendance for its opening Saturday, day two of the fair overall. The fair averaged 53,000 visitors a day, with four days topping 70,000.
