US Attorney Joe Hogsett leaves his federally appointed position at the end of this week.
But his political future may not be decided for a while longer.

Hogsett said earlier this year he would remain as US Attorney for Indiana’s Southern District through 2016, the end of his term…effectively taking himself out of contention for a widely-speculated run for mayor of Indianapolis next year. But then, two weeks ago, Hogsett sent a letter informing Attorney General Eric Holder of his resignation, effective at the end of July and that led many to believe the Democrat would indeed make a bid for mayor. Hogsett, who’s prohibited from discussing a potential run for office while still in his post as U-S Attorney, says a decision on his political ambitions likely won’t be made right away.
“In order to fairly assess the future, I’ll need, I think, at least a couple of weeks to talk to people and gain their wise counsel,” says Hogsett.
Indianapolis law firm Bose McKinney and Evans Monday announced it will bring on Hogsett as a partner when he leaves office. For Indiana Public Broadcasting, I’m Brandon Smith.
