Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has made an LGBT hire in Indiana for a key role in her campaign.

Indiana Competes director Peter Hanscom will serve as the state director of Clinton's campaign in Indiana in advance of the May 3 primary.

Hanscom says Clinton will focus on building a statewide campaign, and he expects the number of endorsements from key elected officials in the Democratic Party to grow.

Hanscom recently served as the leader of the Indiana Competes business initiative that called for an expansion of civil rights protections for the LGBTQ community in the state.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (D-VT) presidential campaign will open offices in Fort Wayne, Lafayette and South Bend Saturday. The campaign also has offices in Bloomington, Evansville and Indianapolis.

The primary election is May 3. Early voting starts April 5.
