Happy Hollow Construction To Cause Traffic Headaches

West Lafayette drivers who use Happy Hollow Road on a regular basis might want to find an alternate route starting next week.

Public Works Director Dave Buck says the road’s reconstruction project includes new utility lines, curbs and gutters, as well as a new pedestrian trail.

He says beginning Monday, Happy Hollow will be closed between River Road and Catherwood Drive to replace a culvert.

Buck says when that phase is done near the end of June, crews will be closing the busy intersection of Happy Hollow and River Road.

“That will be a much more involved detour and we’re working with various agencies to set up the preferred detour routes," says Buck. "There will be local detours on Robinson and Salisbury, but that will probably be the most painful for traffic detours.”

Buck says the final two phases of the project, from roughly August of this year through October of 2016, will only open one southbound lane to traffic.

He says the total cost for the project is roughly $6-million, with the state paying for 80% and the city picking up the rest.
