Greater Lafayette Commerce connecting the Navy and area businesses

Greater Lafayette Commerce is giving local businesses an opportunity to learn about potential partnerships with the Navy.

Representatives from the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Crane Division are part of a workshop to discuss collaborating with them and accessing technical assistance.

Greater Lafayette Commerce President and C-E-O Joe Seaman says the goal is to learn more about the Center, which will showcase the projects its working on now.

“To see if there’s any interest by some of our local companies if they want to work with Crane and participate in some of those projects.”

He thinks a future meeting might allow area businesses to showcase what they can do for the center.

So far, approximately 60 companies with different areas of expertise have registered for the workshop. Seaman says the event this Wednesday morning is open to any business.

“It’s been a project we’ve been working on for a couple years to get this relationship established,” he says. “We just felt it was so unique for our community to have that opportunity.”

Seaman thinks a half a dozen businesses or more could have agreements with the center in southern Indiana within a few years.

“That means jobs or maybe retention and keeping jobs.”

The workshop is 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, in the Tippecanoe Room of the Tippecanoe County Office Building, 20 N Third St. Registration information is HERE.
