GOP Says Fix For RFRA Is Close

House Speaker Brian Bosma says his caucus is close to final agreement on a legislative fix for the controversial religious freedom bill.

House Republicans spent more than four hours Wednesday in private caucus meetings.  And Bosma and Senate GOP Leader David Long met in the Speaker’s office for about two and a half hours as lawmakers craft language to clarify the religious freedom bill known as RFRA.  Bosma wouldn’t get into specifics about what that language contains…but a possible draft being passed around the Statehouse would explicitly say RFRA could not be used to deny services to anyone for any reason, including sexual orientation.  Bosma says there’s still work to be done, including talks with the business community about whether the language will address their ongoing concerns.

“We’re still working and having discussions," says Bosma. "I believe it will; I believe we’re going to be on the same page.”

Bosma still says full repeal of the law is the wrong move.  And the Speaker says he remains hopeful the legislature can send the clarification language to the governor’s desk Thursday.
