Flannelly is Lafayette's new police chief

An 18-year veteran is taking over as Lafayette's police chief.

Lieutenant Pat Flannelly will replace Don Roush, who is retiring at the end of the month to take a new position at Purdue.

Flannelly will work with the outgoing chief over the next week-and-a-half to transition into his new role.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to sit down with Chief Roush and see what his perspective is," he said.  "One of the things I want to build on and what I've been doing for the last few months is projects, getting out into the community, connecting people, and connecting them with the police department."

Flannelly was instrumental in setting up  a new social media site is up and running for Lafayette residents to share information on community safety.  'Nextdoor' is a free, private, network that allows neighbors to exchange information about their area.

He will officially take over as police chief, November 1st.
