Off The Field With Morgan Burke: November 21

Purdue Athletics

On this, a cold wintry day, it’s sometimes helpful to think warm thoughts -- unless the toasty item in question is the proverbial “hot seat” some sports coaches seem to find themselves on following less-than-successful season.

On this edition of WBAA’s Off The Field, we’ll ask Purdue athletics director Morgan Burke if such a thing even exists, or if it’s a media creation designed to spur debate on shows like this one.

We also talk about whether coaches of revenue-generating sports are held to different standards and what it means to the department as a whole if, as is the case this year, the football team brings in $3 million less than expected.

Also, an examination of the two kinds of athletics director – the ones who live and die with wins and losses and the objective administrator removed from results on the field (hint: Morgan's pretty passionate about athletics at his alma mater).
