Lafayette’s interim fire chief is taking over permanently.

The city announced Richard Doyle as the department’s new leader.

Five candidates were up for the position, but Mayor Tony Roswarski says Doyle’s experience set him apart.

Doyle has served in the department for nearly three decades.

He says the foundation of the Department is sound, but he hopes to enhance its presence and involvement.

He worked as the interim chief after Jim Morrow was demoted to lieutenant last month.

Prior to that, Doyle worked as the Training Chief for seven years.

He was sworn into the position during a ceremony Tuesday morning.
