State Representative Ed Delaney says he‘s the most qualified of all potential candidates to fill the mayoral vacancy left by Republican Greg Ballard.

The Democrat says he remains the only official candidate in the race.

And Delaney says he is the best choice even compared to those who have yet to announce.

"I'm probably the only one who's had the kind of experience I've had, ranging from being a veteran, to being a lawyer who helped grow a fantastically successful business here in this town, to having worked overseas for our government and now having worked in the legislature for six years.

Delaney says the fact that Greg Ballard isn‘t running sets the stage for candidates to have serious conversations about what‘s best for the city in terms of public safety, government spending and other issues.

Former U-S Attorney Joe Hogsett is expected to announce his candidacy for mayor of Indianapolis official this week.

Indianapolis Senator Jim Merritt and former state G-O-P Chairman Murray Clark have confirmed they‘re considering running.
