Death and the Penguin

Death and the Penguin is one of the more memorable tales you’ll read this year, reminding one of early 20th century absurdist novelists – though without the insects.

Set in modern day Kiev (Ukraine), the story places us squarely into the world of post-Soviet Europe where Viktor, an unemployed writer of short stories and the owner of an orphan penguin receives a job writing obituaries-for-the-future. The story careens between the fanciful and absurd as Viktor and his penguin take us into a world of mobsters, well meaning peace officers and officious socialites, all lubricated with a vital dose of vodka and cognac.  This is a page turner of a novel you won’t soon forget!
