Monday is the deadline for families to apply for Indiana‘s first state-funded, free pre-kindergarten program.
Marni Lemons with Indiana Family and Social Services Administration says “On My Way Pre-K” is starting in January as a pilot program in Allen, Lake, Marion and Vanderburgh Counties.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for low-income families with 4-year-old children who will start kindergarten in the fall to give them a bit of a head start at no cost to them," she says.
Lemon says Jackson County will join the others and be fully-operational by the fall of 2015.
She says if the number of family’s that qualify for the program exceeds the number of available grants, a randomized lottery process will be used to determine who receives a grant.
