Congresswoman Susan Brooks Won't Seek Ivy Tech Presidency

Cross one name off of Ivy Tech's presidential candidate list.

Congresswoman Susan Brooks (R-5th) had been mentioned as a possible candidate for the position after Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann announced she was resigning to pursue the president's job herself.

But Brooks tells the Anderson Herald-Bulletin she won’t seek the community college job, and is instead focusing on her re-election campaign.

The Carmel Republican was considered a possible candidate since she’s worked at Ivy Tech before - she was vice president and general counsel from 2007 until she won her first term in Congress in 2012.

Governor Pence has touted Ellspermann for the Ivy Tech position since December, though the two deny that a political split led to the publicly-amicable parting of the Republican ticket during an election year.

But Ellspermann may not be the only big name candidate -- dozens are expected to apply before the March 15 application deadline.

One of could be former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.

Michael Dora, chairman of Ivy Tech's Board of Trustees, tells the Indianapolis Star Ballard intended to apply for the position, though Ballard declined to comment.

A decision on a new president to replace the retiring Tom Snyder is expected by the end of April.
