CityBus finalizes contracts with Purdue, Ivy Tech

CityBus has approved contracts with Ivy Tech and Purdue for the coming year.

General Manager Marty Sennett says there are no changes with Ivy Tech’s service. He says a few changes are coming to Purdue routes.

That includes late night service on Thursday nights.

"The Purdue students can have a safe ride back after partying like they do Friday and Saturday nights," he says. "Also, we're changing the Gold Loop (route) from a ten to a 15 minute frequency."

Sennett says the Inner Loop route also serves part of Purdue Village, so decreasing the frequency of the Gold loop route makes sense. He says they’re ending the Ahlers Drive route, because it had too few riders.

The contract amount with Purdue also changed. Sennett says it’s about $51,000 less than the existing agreement.

CityBus Center

The new CityBus Center on Third Street in Lafayette is nearly complete. Sennett says buses should be able to use it by mid-August. He says construction has been largely trouble-free, except for some weather delays.

The center will have ten bus bays and be smoke-free inside and out.

Once it’s operational, Sennett says CityBus will no longer have a presence at Riehle Plaza, which the city owns.
