Mike Savage

General Manager

Mike Savage is the General Manager of WBAA at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.  The station has a rich history and tradition dating back nearly 100 years. As General Manager, Mike directs WBAA's three channels; News on AM 920, Classical/News on 101.3FM and Jazz on 101.3 FM HD2.

In addition to his role at WBAA, Mike currently serves on nonprofit boards including NPR, Public Radio in MidAmerica (PRIMA) and Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations (IPBS). At NPR, Mike holds positions on the Audit, Distribution/Interconnect and Strategic Planning Committees.  In Indiana, he is involved in several collaborative initiatives with stations including regional hosting, regional journalism and digital news. Mike also provides public media consulting services to a variety of organizations and stations. 

With more than 20 years of public media experience at stations in Georgia, Utah, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana, Mike has been honored broadcasting awards by the Society for Professional Journalists and Associated Press. His managing philosophy is centered in character-based leadership principles including team-building, empowerment and collaboration.

Mike holds a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Miami University, Ohio and a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Georgia State University.

WBAA's Mike Savage recently sat down with Margot Marlatt, Executive Director of the Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society, violinist Regan Eckstein and hornist Laura Sommer to talk about Sunday's TCMS "Fall Back," concert, which takes place Sunday at 4 at St. John's Episcopal Church in downtown Lafayette.

Following a national search, WBAA has selected Stan Jastrzebski as News Director.  Jastrzebski is currently News Director for WFSU in Tallahassee, Florida.  He begins work at WBAA April 28, 2014.

WBAA General Manager Mike Savage says he is thrilled to have Jastrzebski as part of the station’s news staff. “Stan is a talented journalist who understands the mission and purpose of public radio.  We are very happy have him join the team.”

Jastrzebski has 10 years of radio news experience at stations including WGN, Chicago and WFIU in Bloomington, IN.

WBAA completed its eighth and final day of Spring Member Drive fundraising on the same day the station celebrated 92 years of being on-air.  WBAA also celebrated a record number of new members joining the station with 61 joining the station on Friday and 192 joining since the drive began!
