Event Description

Dick Lehman | Amy Sanders

Expressive Clay: Two Approaches" features works from two diverse, expressive ceramicists, Dick Lehman and Amy Sanders. Artists’ Own and the Greater Lafayette Clay Guild have developed the exhibit in conjunction with the Fun with Dick & Amy Pottery Workshop and Lecture at Thomas Duncan Hall, Oct. 13 & 14. The 7 pm lecture on Friday, the 13th, is free and open to the public. Dick Lehman is a renowned ceramic artist from Goshen, Indiana. Dick found his love for ceramics as an elective course in college. After graduation and a “regular” job, Dick switched from a hobby potter in 1981 to full-time ceramists. Dick’s insights and techniques have appeared in both national and international periodicals and books; his work is exhibited and collected worldwide. He may be best known for his enhancements of three firing techniques: long-wood-firing, side-fire, and saggar-fire. Amy Sanders, owner of "there there pottery," is from Charlotte, North Carolina. Amy creates delightful earthenware handbuilt vessels demonstrating a luscious balance of texture, rhythm, and pattern within their visually soft utilitarian forms. She currently works as a studio artist, teaches adult handbuilding classes, and conducts workshops nationwide. The exhibit will showcase works each artist has selected specifically for this event.
